ABOUT

Cadence Chung is a 21-year-old poet, student, musician, and composer from Te Whanganui-a-Tara / Wellington. Her writing has been published widely, and her nationally-bestselling poetry chapbook anomalia was published in April 2022 with Tender Press (formerly We Are Babies). As part of the inaugural Ruth and Oswald L Kraus Residency at Wai-te-Ata Press, she also produced Mythos: an audio-visual anthology of art by young New Zealanders. Her first full-length poetry collection, Mad Diva, will be released in April 2025 with Otago University Press.

She is also a regularly engaged singer, currently studying Classical Voice at the New Zealand School of Music. Find more details on her musical career here. Her compositions have been performed widely. Her original productions In Blind Faith (2022) and Hector (2024) were performed at BATS Theatre, receiving national news coverage and critical acclaim. She also presents on RNZ Concert.

Cadence is also one of the founders and editors of Symposia Magazine, a new literary publication seeking to promote emerging poets. She also edits the New Zealand Poetry Society's quarterly magazine a fine line.
